David E. Houston, Attorney at Law, respects the privacy of everyone who visits our website. This policy explains what information this site collects, why it is collected, and the choices you have. It covers this website only. It does not cover information you give us in person, by phone, or on paper at our office.
Information You Give Us
When you send us a message through the contact form on this site, we receive what you type into it: your name, email address, phone number, and your questions or comments. We use that information to answer your question and to set up a consultation if you ask for one. It is not used for any unrelated purpose.
Our contact form runs on our own web server rather than an outside form service. Messages are stored on that server and delivered to our office by email. The form also uses simple spam checks that run on our server and do not send your information to another company.
Information Collected Automatically
Like most websites, this site records basic technical details when a page loads. These include the pages viewed, the approximate region a visit came from, the website that sent you here, and your browser and device type. This information tells us which pages are useful and where visitors have trouble. It is not used to identify you personally.
Analytics and Cookies
We use two analytics tools. Matomo is hosted on servers operated by our website provider, which means the data it produces stays with us rather than being shared with an advertising network. We also use Google Tag Manager, which loads Google measurement services such as Google Analytics. Google processes that data under its own privacy policy and may set cookies in your browser.
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. The ones used here support analytics and normal site function. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and Google offers an opt-out for its analytics products. Blocking cookies will not stop you from reading this site or sending us a message.
Search Engines
Search engines, including Google and Bing, crawl the public pages of this site so people can find us. We use the free webmaster tools both companies provide. These tools report the search terms that led visitors here and any technical problems they find. The reports are totals and do not identify individual visitors to us.
Search engines operate independently of our office. What they collect, and how long they keep it, is governed by their policies rather than ours.
Embedded Maps
Several pages include a Google Maps frame so you can find our Cleburne office. Loading that map connects your browser to Google, which may collect data about the request the same way it would if you visited Google Maps directly. We do not receive that information.
Links to Other Websites
Our site links to a few outside websites, such as our Facebook page and Google Maps directions to our office. Those links open on the other company's website, not ours. Once you leave this site, anything you do there is handled under that company's privacy policy and terms, which we encourage you to read.
What We Do Not Do
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not trade or rent it to advertisers or data brokers. We share information only with the service providers that keep this website running, only as needed for them to do that work, or when the law requires it. Those providers are:
- Our website provider, which hosts this site, our contact form, and our Matomo analytics
- The email delivery service that sends contact form messages to our office
- The company that provides our office email
- Google, for the analytics, search, and map services described above
Client Files and Confidential Information
Records created while we represent a client are kept separately from this website and are treated as confidential. We release them at the client's request or where the law requires it. Nothing you send through this site becomes part of a client file until our office reviews it.
Please do not include private or sensitive details about your legal matter in the contact form. A short note about what you need help with is enough. We will talk through the details with you during your consultation.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed to children under thirteen. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If your child needs legal help, a parent or guardian should contact us. If you believe a child has sent information through this site, contact us and we will remove it.
Changes and Questions
We may update this policy as the site changes or as legal requirements change. The revised version will be posted on this page. If you have a question about anything described here, or you want to know what information we hold about you, reach us through the contact page on this site.
